From Donuts To Crumpets...

Yay!  Welcome to my new blog home... I'm so glad you found me. :)  I'm still a little bit under construction, so bear with me while I finish up! And don't forget to follow me at this new address!!!  Just click on that there button to the right.... ----->

Did you know I am British? By first sight and sound, most people don't. There is absolutely no accent unless I am around my extended family or I am VERY, very tired. If you were to meet me on the street you would think I was completely American and it surprises folks to hear that have a green card.  However, my birth certificate and my passport tell the true story. I am 100% British, half English, half Scottish.

It was my trip back to England last summer for my Granddad's funeral that reminded me of my home countries rich traditions and culture that is near and dear to my heart. The home I have built with my Yank Hubby is a home of mixed traditions and culture, so thus the name From Donuts To Crumpets!

What the heck is a crumpet you may ask?  You have heard the phrase before... "tea and crumpets" (said with a propper, posh English accent), but in reality, you really don't have a clue, do you!

Behold... The Crumpet!

Smack that hot baby with some butter and some golden syrup and it is crunch through your teeth, crispy joy on the outside... melt in your mouth, spongy crumpet heaven on the inside.  (Thanks to all those holes in the top that just let the syrup drip through.)  Trust me when I say this is NOTHING like what Americans like to call an "English Muffin".  This, my friends, is pure unadulterated bliss.

So yeah, I luuuuuuuuurve crumpets.  There are in fact lots of things from my British Heritage that I like to force on um, share with my family...  Some things they love, others they don't... but it's always good fun for me for all of us!  So stick around and join in on our adventures... here on From Donuts To Crumpets! :)

My Name Is Petra, And I'm A Farmaholic...

I have started my own intervention.  I have been completely addicted to Farmville on Facebook for several months now.  Have you ever played?  If you haven't, DON'T DO IT!!!!  It is a completely useless, silly game that you will become COMPLETELY addicted to.  I thought I would be immune when I decided to take a look at what all the hype was about.  I was soooooooooo wrong.

I don't know what it is about this game... you know it is a time waster, you know it is completely stupid and that it doesn't require any skill or brain power at all, but you CAN'T STOP YOURSELF!!!!  You have to go every day and harvest your crops before they die and earn fake money so you can buy fake stuff for your fake farm... but for WHAT???  I don't know!  You just can't help yourself!  Think I am over exaggerating?  Farmville has over 23 MILLION fans on Facebook.  Insane?  Why yes, yes it is!

I, Petra, have wasted way too much precious time on Farmville, (I am talking sometimes hours at a time!), so I have had to stage my own intervention.  It has been approximately 12 days since I farmed on farmville.  I have let a whole field of cabbage die!  I did not collect the Easter eggs that were all over the place.  I have not collected from any animals or harvested any trees.  My name is Petra, and I'm a recovering farmaholic!

13 Year Old Advice...

Mike Jr (Running in to our room from watching TV in his bedroom): Mom, did you know there is a new birth control that lets you have your period just four times a year? You only have to have one every three months instead of every month!

Flashback Friday, September 2000...

This picture came up randomly in my google sidebar today and I was flooded with magical, fun memories.
We had decided to drive down to Disney in Orlando Florida again to celebrate Mike Sr & Mike Jr's Bdays. It was an amazing trip as we got to meet tons of the characters at all four of the parks, open up the Magic Kingdom park on Mike Jr's Bday, eat at Cinderella's castle and get front row seats to all their shows. In this pic Dee and Mike Jr are dancing with Cinderella and Prince Charming in the parade. I can't believe how little they are! :)
