Vacation 2010...

We had a lovely week in California.  The drive is harsh, (12 hours of nothing but desert), but once you get to the beach it is worth every second!  The main reason we drove out was for Mike Sr & Miss Dee who were both dying to go to the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp.  However, that was only for a few hours each day and then we got some well needed R&R on the California beaches.

They had a fantastic time at the Training Camp.  To see their favorite ball players in person took their love of the Cowboys to a new level.  Even Mike Jr, (who is a Colts fan much to his fathers displeasure), sported Cowboys gear and had a fabulous time proclaiming that the Cowboys were his new 2nd favorite team.  Ha Ha. A friend sent us these pics that were on the Dallas Cowboys Website.  Jason Witten fell in to the crowd right where my fam was standing.  You can't see my hubby in the first pic because he is underneath Witten holding him up, but the look of pure joy on Dee's face makes this my favorite pic of the entire vacation.

I'm so glad they took this next pic once Jason Witten had gotten up out of the crowd.  (BTW, the crowd was trying to pull Witten in... my hubby was the one that helped get him out!) Ok, my hubby is 6' tall, but he looks tiny next to 6' 6" Jason Witten!  And doesn't he look star struck?

I only went to the camp one day and it was fun, but seriously, I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with the puppy at the hotel, reading books and getting a tan.  A true vacation I tell you! :)  We had planned to go to San Fransisco on the Tuesday, but they were having such a great time at the camp, that I suggested we stay in Oxnard the whole week.  There were no complaints. :)

We had a super time on the beach each day.  That is one thing I really miss about living on the East Coast, being closer to beaches.  Here are a few pics I snapped...

We also decided to drive to LA one day, since we have never been there.  Let me tell ya... It was not what I expected!  We enjoyed seeing the Hollywood sign...

...but then we went to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and I was expecting this glamorous street with all the stars.  No, it was pretty gross.  The stores were tacky, the streets were filthy and they were even shooting what looked like a very low budget porn movie on one side of the street.  Seriously, I was very disappointed with LA.  I did get this great pic of Miles on the Lassie star though.  Maybe I have a warped sense of humour, but it really cracks me up. :)

All in all, it was a wonderful week but I am glad to be home. :)

How fun! I haven't been out to LA since 1993. That was..um...yesterday, right? My hubby is a Cowboys fan. I doubt he'd travel to CA to see training camp, but he's dying to see a game in the new Texas Stadium. Looks like a great vacation.

PLHJCollins. Why aren't there any whole Family pictures. What about that great tan you worked on. Other than that looks like a great vacation. I think Disney has been displaced as #1

BTW that first word should have an ! not a . at the end. The second sentence should have a ? not a .
Sorry my grammar has gotten very poor.

Ok, so we all know I can't stand the Cowboys, but even I can appreciate how much fun that must have been!

Next time you go to CA, hit San Diego...sooooo beautiful.

FUN! I love the first pic! I can't believe what a great action shot that is. The beach is beautiful. But, I don't understand how you brainwashed your kids to like those yucky cowboys...next time pick a better team to hang out with.

Wow, how fun for you guys! I should have snuck Dallin in your car with you, he loves the Cowboys. I'm happy you were able to vacation and relax, how nice!

Glad you were able to have moments of peace to yourself. It did look like you all had a lot of fun. The picture with Miles and the Lassie star is GREAT!

Dee and Mike couldn't look any more thrilled about their cowboys experience.

Now I can scratch the Hollywood walk of fame off of any to do list of things to see.

Relaxing on the beach sounds great!

Sorry that LA was such a disappointment. Living in LA I can tell you that there is a lot more to LA (that is gorgeous) than the Walk of Fame. It's not my favorite spot either. I hope that some time you'll have a chance to see the fun and beauty this place has (as well).

I grew up in LA and on our trip back this summer we drove right by the Cowboys Training Camp signs. There are a lot of good things to do in LA but a lot that isn't too. Next time try the Getty Museum or Griffth Park Observatory at night.

Sounds like our holiday - fabulous but exhausting!

Next time you go to SoCal and want to take a trip into LA, let me know. I'll point you to the good spots and keep you away from the bad ones (like H'wood Blvd.)
Did you go to the temple?
