Driving Miss Dee...

DeAnna got her learners permit just over a month ago... it sure has been an adventure to say the least. She is the first to admit that driving is not as easy as it looks. Here are some things she had to learn quite quickly:

  • You really need to know which is the brake and which is the accelerator pedal.

  • You have to put the car in to park before you get out of it or it will start rolling when you take your foot off the break.

  • You can't go round a corner at 45 mph... well, not safely at least.

  • You have to wait to turn in to the turning lane until there actually IS a turning lane... otherwise oncoming traffic may get agitated easily.

  • When you are turning left across lanes of traffic, you don't generally have the right of way.

  • If you are driving, it is your responsibility to turn off the car and remove the keys, not to leave it running in the driveway.

  • When going round a round-a-bout, you cannot stop every two feet, even when there is no-one behind you.

  • 40 does not mean 20 and 20 does not mean 40 mph.

  • The lines of the parking spaces are not meant to be parked OVER, but rather IN BETWEEN.

  • If you want to go backwards you must first put the car in reverse.

  • Braking is a slow, gentle process. Or at least, it SHOULD BE!!

  • If a dragonfly flies in to your car, you should definitely not start screaming, swatting and twisting the wheel all around while still driving. The best bet is definitely to pull over, stop the car, and then get out.

Of course, you never get the BEST clips on video, but for anyone who is interested, I put together this little movie of her first driving moments... (don't forget to turn off the music at the bottom first.) Enjoy! :)

Hilarious! It makes me very fearful for when Dayle learns to drive. I don't think I'll be as patient as you were though!

That was very entertaining. You seem to be very patient, when it is my turn to do that with my kids, I am sure the video will have many bleeps in it.
